Sleep + Stress Protocol

An evening-focused stack built around calming, well-studied ingredients. The goal is simple: support relaxation in the hours before bed, support restful sleep quality, and support a healthy cortisol response to everyday stress.

How this connects

This is the first link in the chain. Stress that runs late keeps evening cortisol up and breaks up sleep, and poor sleep then drags down Energy / Focus and Hormone Health: steady cortisol and good sleep support a regular cycle, mood, and libido. It also has a two-way line to your gut. For most people, this is the place to start. Read the full protocol story.

Also see Gut Health: stress and sleep talk both ways with your gut, so digestion often settles as nights improve (and vice versa).

Also see Hormone Health, Fertility & Sexual Wellness: steady cortisol and good sleep support a regular cycle, mood, and libido. Ashwagandha and magnesium appear in both protocols.

Habits that make this protocol work

These cost nothing and do the heavy lifting. Supplements are meant to sit on top of them, not replace them.

  • Morning outdoor lightStep outside within the first hour of waking for 5–10 minutes (longer when it’s overcast). Daylight helps anchor your body clock and the natural morning cortisol rise.
  • Caffeine cutoffHave your last caffeine about 8–10 hours before bed. Caffeine lingers for hours, and research shows even a dose 6 hours before bed can disturb sleep.
  • Time your hard trainingFinish intense workouts roughly 3+ hours before bed. Most evening exercise is fine; it’s very hard sessions right before bed that tend to get in the way.
  • Walk after dinnerA 10–15 minute easy walk after meals, especially dinner, supports a healthy post-meal glucose response and digestion, and helps you wind down.
  • Dim, cool, dark eveningsLower overhead lights and screens 1–2 hours before bed. Keep the bedroom cool (commonly ~60–68°F / 15–20°C), dark, and quiet.
  • Slow-exhale downshiftA few minutes of slow breathing with longer exhales than inhales (e.g., in for 4, out for 6–8) helps shift your body toward rest.

Talk to your healthcare provider first. Supplements affect everyone differently and can interact with medications. Start with one product at a time at the low end of the dose range, and check with your clinician before starting, especially if you are pregnant, nursing, taking prescription medication, or managing a health condition. Doses shown are typical label ranges, not personal recommendations.
